Lingam, what is the meaning?

Lingam, what is the meaning in the 21st Century?

In western tantra ‘ Lingam’ is referring to the male ‘wand of light’,
Does this have any reference to modern day lovers who practice ‘lingam honouring’ or ‘lingam massage’ ??

First lets look at what has been written, Subhamoy Das is a former journalist and communications professional based in India.
In the post-Vedic period, the Linga became symbolical of the generative power of Lord Shiva.

However Early Hinduism talks of it is only the outward symbol of the formless being.
Linga signifies that the creation is effected by the union of ‘Prakriti’ and ‘Purusha,’ the male and the female powers of Nature. Linga also signifies ‘Satya,’ ‘Jnana’ and ‘Ananta’ – Truth, knowledge, and Infinity.

Lord Shiva, who is the undying soul seated in the chambers of your heart, who is your in-dweller, your innermost self or ‘Atman,’ and who is identical with the supreme ‘Brahman.’

The Linga Purana’s ideas incorporate, states Stella Kramrisch, those of the Samkhya school of Hindu philosophy. The chapter 1.17 of the Linga Purana introduces Linga as Pradhana or Prakriti (cosmic substance), while Shiva is described as Lingin, or one with this “subtle body”. Linga is presented by the text as an abstract concept, contrasted with Alinga (Vyakta), along with its phallic significance and sexual truth in nature’s process of life creation.
The verses of Linga Purana, states Kramrisch, presents Linga as an an iconic symbol of both the matter and the spirit, the Prakriti and the Purusha, whereby the “powers of creation, liberation and annihilation” are symbolized by the icon.

Find out more how  knowing about Lingam in a modern day tantric context can bring more passion and union to your relationship.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am worried that attending a private couples coaching session will be more confronting than a couples workshop, is this true?

No, The sessions are conducted in a casual professional setting, our practitioners are sensitive to the needs of both partners. The sessions are non-confrontational, clothed and tailored to your individual needs as a couple. Many couples actually find the private sessions less confrontational than attending a workshop.
  • Will we need to be naked, or in sexual positions in the session?

No, the sessions are conducted fully clothed. The tantra practitioner may put you and your partner into various sexual positions in the sessions to demonstrate some of the key practices for you to practise at home.

  • How long are the sessions, and how many sessions do you recommend, What is the cost?

The sessions are 1hour 45 minutes in length, and it entirely depends on the couple and why they are seeking the coaching as to how many sessions are recommended. Ie. If a couple is just coming for curiosity, have a good sex life etc. then maybe only 1-2 sessions are required to teach the major practices. However if the couple have differences in libido, lost the spark in their relationship, or other sexual or communication difficulties, we would recommend 3-4 sessions. The cost is $285.00 per session.

  • Do we have to be in a long term relationship to benefit from these sessions?

No, our practitioners see young couples who have only been together for a couple of months as well as couples who have been married for many years and are much older. Tantra benefits couples of any age group, and stage of relationship.

  • My partner and I have not practised Tantra, Yoga or meditation before, will these sessions still be of use to us?

Yes, the principles of Tantra are universal, you do not have to have studied any oriental arts to benefit from the sessions. Kerry and Diane’s work in bringing Tantra to Australia over the past 30 years, has enabled them to devise practises that are applicable and practical for the ‘normal modern couple’, their wealth of experience with talking with thousands of people about Tantra has enabled them to develop a program to teach Tantra to couples in an effective way that gets results and some remarkable outcomes – please read our testimonials.
